Approximately twenty-five thousand households in Queensland's southeast woke up experiencing outages on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, generating powerful gusts topping 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks measuring up to seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that different parts across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were working to restore electricity service throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units activated to manage the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, around one thousand energy customers in Victoria also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services received 598 emergency reports across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various rescue reports
• Wyndham region - 179 calls for assistance

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the wettest day, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities warned that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to significant health impacts in the area.
